My review
Rating: 5 of 5 starsFunny - almost enough to make me want to pick up a copy of the OED myself. Shea's description of his struggle to get through the definition of the word "set" by itself is worth reading.
Enlightening - each of the 27 chapters (one for each letter of the alphabet and one for the bibliography, which was exceedingly boring apparently) begins with a stream-of-consciousness type narrative and ends with an eclectic sample of seldom heard and even less often used words.
Refreshing - I read this in a couple of days after reading a much weightier volume, and it was a welcome change.
